Acting and Auditioning for Film and Television: Ages 15+

Wednesdays 7:00-9:00pm
September 18th to December 4th (12 Classes)
3F Studio – 134 McPhilips Ave, across from the Saltspring Library
$476+GST

Unlike other acting classes, the students work in each class is actually done *on camera*, using actual scripts from professional film and television auditions. Students get a lot of individual focus, support, and feedback, and get the videos of their scenes every week.

What will student get out of class?

Expect to build confidence and creativity, while learning the real skills that actors use to audition and work on set.No experience is needed to join a class, only a willingness to learn, practice and play.

Students are assigned practice scripts from real film+tv auditions to prepare, and then work those scenes on camera. Video will be recorded and uploaded to a private folder so you can see for yourself how the work improves with practice.

Is it really possible for folks on Saltspring to work professionally?

In 2020, professional auditions for film and television switched almost completely to “self-tape” auditions. This means that for the first time actors outside of major urban centres have the same chances of auditioning and working professionally as actors in big cities. Projects that shoot in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island have a consistent need for actors to play speaking roles in movies and television shows, and so it is more possible to be a professional actor while living on Saltspring island than ever before.

What if I have a lot of experience/no experience?

Each student will be personally assigned a script to prepare, based on their interests, goals and experience level. New, or nervous about memorizing? Ask for a scene with just a few lines and focus on exploring and being expressive. Need something more challenging? Ask for a longer scene, or something with a juicy emotional arc, and expand the edge of your current expressive and technical skills.
